NEW FILM INDUSTRY TRAINING COURSES LAUNCH AT PINEWOOD STUDIO WALES

Sgil Cymru, the company delivering the Welsh Government-funded Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media, will launch three new training schemes from its base at Pinewood Studio Wales commencing 31st October 2016. The courses will improve the skills of industry professionals, preparing them for new roles within film production. The initial three schemes will focus on script supervising, production management and locations. Funding for the programmes come from Creative Skillset’s Film Fund backed by the BFI’s National Lottery funds.

The first course is a two-week intensive programme for aspiring script supervisors. Ten trainees will be tutored by Ceri Evans-Cooper, whose numerous credits over thirty years as a script supervisor include films in the Harry Potter franchise, the Matt Damon action thriller Green Zone and Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom.

This scheme is followed by one in November, for those wishing to step up to the role of production manager. A further course focussing on location management will take place in January 2017. Whilst the training is delivered in Wales, applications are welcomed from professionals from all over the UK.

Sgil Cymru Managing Director Sue Jeffries, who herself has over thirty years of experience in film and television production, said:

“The fact that Creative Skillset have awarded Sgil Cymru the money is proof that these courses are of the high standards demanded by the UK film industry. With more and more film productions coming to Wales to shoot each year, it’s vital that Wales can offer the training that meets the needs of this exciting industry.”

David Johnston, Operations Manager at Pinewood Studio Wales, commented:

“Pinewood Studio Wales is proud to host Sgil Cymru’s upcoming training courses. The extensive media training experience they have been providing is invaluable to the industry in Wales and with the award of funding from Creative Skillset and the BFI’s National Lottery Fund, the whole of the UK will benefit. I look forward to welcoming the successful candidates to Pinewood Studio Wales”

Applications are now open for all of the courses. Further information can be found at www.sgilcymru.com/en/film-training
