Following his success at the QSA Awards 2018 Thomas Watkins, one of Sgil Cymru’s previous level 4 apprentices, has received a nomination for this year’s Apprenticeship Awards Cymru.
Thomas has been selected as a finalist in the Higher Apprentice of the Year category alongside Lynette Davies from Pathways Training – NPTC and Daren Chesworth from Coleg Cambria. The winner will be announced at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru ceremony in the Celtic Manor hotel on Friday 9th November.
Thomas completed a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media (Interactive Media Pathway) through the training provider Sgil Cymru. Whilst working on his apprenticeship Thomas was employed as a Multimedia Apprentice for Whitehart Multimedia in Devauden, Chepstow.
Thomas said:
It was not like regular jobs where you turn up in a suit and tie! Even though it was a busy company, it was on a farm, in a peaceful environment where you could see fields surrounded by animals! I would go to learning blocks at Sgil Cymru in Pinewood Studio Wales with other apprentices and the rest of the time I was at Whitehart, training and working in graphics, cameras and editing software, and combining interactive components and testing e-learning platforms.
Sgil Cymru’s Managing Director Sue Jeffries was successful at last year’s Apprenticeship Awards Cymru, having won in the Work-based Learning Assessor of the Year category.
Sue said:
Following on from my success last year, I am so proud that Thomas has reached the final round this time. Thomas was an exceptional apprentice and deserves every success in the future.
