We asked one of our current apprentices, Elin Glyn Jones, why people should join CRIW. Here’s what she had to say:
1.What would you say to encourage people to go for it?
To be honest, to anyone who has come across this apprenticeship, I don’t think much encouragement is needed. When I saw it for the first time, I had to pinch myself.
Your success rate in this industry is often dependent on your experience and contacts. For me, who didn’t know anyone in the industry, it seemed impossible to get my foot in the door, to gain the experience I needed and to meet the right people.
That’s exactly what the apprenticeship provides – a foot in the door and an opportunity to gain experience – Sue, Lowri and Nadine are the metaphorical door stops.
2.What would be the most important message to communicate?
Try.
To me that’s the most important thing.
Try for the apprenticeship.
Try on your placements.
Try something new.
That’s all you can do – and the more you try, the more you’ll get out of it.
This apprenticeship has been a golden experience.
