Over 45 potential media professionals took part in an apprentice recruitment workshop at Enfys Studios in Cardiff this week. Led by Sgil Cymru’s Managing Director Sue Jeffries and Assessor Matt Redd, the apprentices of the future participated in a variety of tasks as an introduction to the industry.
As well as learning about the roles on offer in the creative industries, the participants met staff from a number of media companies including Bad Wolf, Boom Cymru, ITV Cymru Wales, Real SFX and The Look, and were able to ask questions about pathways into the industry and how things work behind the scenes.
Former BBC Cymru Wales and Sgil Cymru apprentice Molleasha Quinn and former ITV Cymru Wales and Sgil Cymru apprentice Nia Yorke were in the studio to talk about their experiences on the apprenticeship scheme, and how they turned their opportunity into successful careers in the media.
A number of the participants will now go on to the next stage of the process, before the final few are chosen for apprenticeships with media employers.
Sgil Cymru’s Sue Jeffries said:
It’s been a brilliant day in the studio. With some great talent on display, just getting this far in the process is a fantastic achievement, and the future of the creative industries in Wales is looking very bright.
