Success for 26 Creative Media Apprentices

Media Apprentices 2016-17

We are extremely proud to announce that our level 3 and level 4 Creative and Digital Media apprentices have passed their apprenticeship.

In September 2016 18 apprentices started a year-long Level 3 Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media with Sgil Cymru. Each apprentice worked full-time for a creative company in the creative industries as part of their apprenticeship. Employers included BBC Cymru Wales, Cardiff Theatrical Services, ITV Cymru Wales, Real SFX and S4C.

As well as the level 3 apprentices Sgil Cymru welcomed 8 apprentices on their Level 4 Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media (Interactive Media Pathway) and Level 4 Apprenticeship in Advertising and Marketing Communications. All apprentices worked full-time over a 15-month period for a creative company in marketing, online, events management and editing roles. Employers included Amplified Business Content, Buzz, Equinox, Golley Slater, IT Pie, Lubas Medical and White Hart Multimedia.

Since completing their apprenticeship the majority of the apprentices have continued to work within the creative industries. Here are some examples of what the apprentices have been up to:

Dominic Farquhar – Grip Apprentice, BBC Cymru Wales

After the apprenticeship, I went straight into working on a block of Casualty. Following that, I completed a few days on Marcella and then went on to the BBC Cymru Wales and the S4C drama called Craith.

Laura Thorne – Production Apprentice, BBC Cymru Wales

I now work for Object Matrix, a company that works alongside the BBC, ITV and Disney who provide editing/ archiving services for production and post-production companies. I head up the marketing for UK, France, USA and Spain which has allowed me to travel all over. I’m also an apprentice ambassador which means I will be returning to my school in February to talk about my experiences.

Jaimie Warburton – Web Developer Apprentice, IT Pie

Since completing my apprenticeship I have continued to work for IT Pie and am now a full-time Web Developer.

Sue Jeffries Managing Director of Sgil Cymru said:

With great pride, Sgil Cymru presents 26 new young people to the industry. They have all successfully completed their frameworks, and are in that exciting time of starting on the journey to the future.

We look forward to celebrating our apprentice’s success on Thursday 25th January at Pinewood Studio Wales.
