Success for Sue at Apprenticeship Awards Cymru

A massive congratulations to Sue Jeffries, Sgil Cymru’s Managing Director, for winning Work-based Learning Assessor at this year’s Apprenticeship Awards Cymru.

Apprenticeship Awards Cymru rewards individuals, learning providers, and employers who have excelled in contributing to the development of the Welsh Government’s Employability and Apprenticeship programmes across Wales.

The awards were hosted at the Celtic Manor resort on Friday evening the 20th of October. As well as the Work-based Learning Assessor category there were a number of others including Apprentice of the Year, Small Employer of the Year and Work-based Learning Tutor of the Year.

Sue won the award as a result of her Lead Assessor duties on the three different apprenticeship programmes that Sgil Cymru run. These apprenticeships place apprentices in different areas of the creative industries, and Sue works closely with a number of employers including BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales, S4C and the BAFTA-winning Real SFX to ensure that apprentices get the most out of their time on the scheme. As lead assessor, Sue also mentors three freelance assessors as they focus on developing the careers of the apprentices.

Sue said:

This award is really important to a small company like mine and to be considered amongst some massive companies is a great achievement.

We are only 18 months old and this is an accolade that can’t be matched. I never expected to win because the category was so strong.

My aim going forward is to work with employers in the media industry to ensure that we get more apprentices in the right places.

Sgil Cymru would like to congratulate all other winners and nominees at this year’s Apprenticeship Awards Cymru.
