The first of Sgil Cymru’s Film Training schemes has taken place at Pinewood Studio Wales in Cardiff, with eight new Script Supervisors from all over the UK completing the intensive two week course. Under the tutelage of Ceri Evans-Cooper, who has worked on films ranging from Matt Damon action thriller GREEN ZONE to the HARRY POTTER franchise, the trainees spent a week getting to grips with the theory behind the role before heading from the training room to the studio floor for a week of practical work with a professional cast and crew.
One of the trainees, Becky Crawford from Stockport said
“I feel very lucky to have been trained by such high calibre crew. I have really enjoyed the course and learnt a lot to add to the knowledge I already have. I now feel confident to take on film Script Supervisor roles.”
With a recognised need for new Script Supervisors in the UK film industry, the trainees are now ready to put their experiences on the course into practice in freelance roles.
Participant Llaima Cardenas from Cardiff added
“It was great being based in a working studio. I didn’t expect to get so much time on set – a whole week was great! I honestly feel much more confident and prepared going forward.”
Course tutor Ceri Evans-Cooper said
“We’ve managed to cover so much in such a short space of time, and while it was a lot to learn, each of the trainees has made the most of the opportunity and will come away with a whole new set of skills. They would all be a valuable asset to any production and I’ve no doubt they’ll soon be working on set.”
The next Film Training scheme is for crew looking to learn the skills to become a Production Manager. Starting later this month, trainees have already been chosen for the course. In January 2017, the trio of courses is completed with a fortnight long Location Manager programme – more information and application details are here.
