The apprentices this year will be working in a variety of roles across different departments in the media industry, including:
- Costume
- Marketing
- Post Production
- Production Department
- Radio
- Special Effects
Before starting in the workplace all apprentices attended a three-week introduction course with Sgil Cymru where they started on their diploma work.
Rebecca, BBC Cymru Wales Digital Marketing apprentice, said:
I feel that my first three weeks at SgilCymru have gone really well. I have enjoyed meeting the other apprentices and feel I have now settled into the working structure of the apprenticeship.
In addition, the apprentices visited Wolf Studios where filming is currently taking place for several productions and had the opportunity to speak to some of the department members working on those series. They also visited Cardiff and Vale College’s facilities in Cardiff city centrewhich they will be able to utilisewhilst on their apprenticeship.
The Look apprentice, Lloyd, said:
The trip to Wolf studios was a great experience as I haven’t ever been to a film set before – it was a really cool opportunity. Visiting the college was good as I found out about all the discounts and facilities available to meduring my year as an apprentice.
With their introduction course coming to an end the apprentices are looking forward to starting with their new employers. Whilst working as apprentices they will be thrown in at the deep end and working on programmes all over the country.

I’m very excited. Being able to work on an actual TV show and learning how the post-production system works is incredibly exciting.
